Air Handlers and ductwork ventilation systems
At Wilks Air Conditioning & Heating, we believe the installation of a home’s air handler and ductwork system is an art. It is the “Wilksmanship” we are most proud of — and what effects home air conditioning into the future. We’re responsible with our planning, making sure there is little effect to your home. And we make sure our ductwork systems use the best quality materials, installed professionally.
An air handler, or air handling unit (AHU) is a device used to condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. It is usually a large metal box containing a blower, heating or cooling elements, filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators, and dampers. Air handlers usually connect to a ductwork ventilation system that distributes the conditioned air through the building and returns it to the AHU. Sometimes AHUs discharge (supply) and admit (return) air directly to and from the space served without ductwork.
Attic insulation is vital to the efficiency of your home. The addition of insulation to your home will lower the heat gain in your home and in some cases reduce the required capacity of your system. Wilks Air Conditioning & Heating applies over thirty years of energy-saving experience to insulating your home.
Very few ducts systems can be adequately cleaned. The majority of homes in San Antonio and surrounding counties have either spiral flex ducting or Fiberglas duct board trunk systems. Those two types of duct systems shouldn’t be cleaned due to the potential for damage. The only duct system that can be properly clean, is a metal duct system. If you have a spiral flex or duct board trunk system that is dirty, then you should replace your ducts.
